Pro Tips to Remove Semi-Permanent Hair Dye

Wash, wash, wash your hair!

The easiest way to get colour out of your hair is by breaking the 'wash your hair as few times as possible' rule. Not washing your hair helps preserve the colour, but when you want it gone, jump in that shower!

● Use A Strong Shampoo – A strong shampoo can help to strip the colour, but to preserve your hair's health, make sure that you use a good deep conditioner after cleansing your hair to nourish it and keep it soft and shiny. It would help if you avoided shampoos and conditioners that preserve colour or add pigment to the hair, as this could reverse your progress.

● Use Warm Water – Using warm water will open the hair follicles and is guaranteed to speed up the fading process. As the hair follicles open, the colour will be stripped out, resulting in faster fading. Make sure the water is at a comfortable temperature to avoid burning yourself or damaging your hair.

● Wash Regularly – It's simple – the more you wash, the more colour will come out of your hair. Though we wouldn't recommend it under normal circumstances, if you wash your hair every day, you'll get the colour out quicker.

Bleach the Colour Away

Bleach is the friend you turn to in times of need. When you have to get colour out fast, bleach can be the ultimate tool for stripping the colour pigment from the hair.

Bleach is effective, but it's also damaging. You should be cautious about using bleach to strip out colour if your hair is already dry or damaged, and as tempting as it may be – we don't recommend bleaching more than once a day.

If you think that bleach could be a suitable option for your hair-dye removal, we have a great bleach kit to help get your hair back to white. Always apply your bleach with a brush and gloves to avoid contact with skin, and follow up with a deep conditioning treatment to restore the hair's moisture.

Last Resort... visit the salon:

If you need a quick fix, or the colour isn't coming out at home, you should head to the salon. A professional hairdresser will have an arsenal of tools and hair-colour removers that you won't be able to find in the shops.

They can also perform a restorative conditioning treatment to repair the damage that may occur during colour removal.

If you're worried about getting the dye out yourself, it's always best to ask a professional for their help. You could end up irritating your scalp or damaging your hair if you don't know what you're doing, so it's always better to be safe than sorry!
