Getting Started

What color should I dye my hair?

+

The great thing about Semi Permanents is that on average they last between 10-12 washes and so you have the freedom to try and test different colours to find the look you are after! The possibilities are endless: you have 40 Crazy Color semi-permanent shades to choose from. From saturated vivids to more muted pastels you will find a Crazy Color shade for you. If you are still unsure what colour is for you, check out our socials for some inspiration. Each of our product pages has images of our Crazy Color community that are also great for ideas!

How long will my colour last?

+

How long your colour lasts depends on so many factors. The condition of your hair, how often you wash your hair and the products you use all contribute. On average our Semi Permanent colours will last 10-12 washes.
Wait as long as you can before the first wash, this helps to keeps the colour locked into the hair for an extended period of time and where you can, use dry shampoo to extend time between washes. Check out our Anti-Bleed Spray it’s the Crazy Color secret weapon to keep that colour locked in!
The better care you take of your vivid hair, the longer your colour will last. Check out our Colour Care guide here for more info.

What is the best way to use crazy color?

+

Crazy Color works well when used on both dry and wet hair! Make sure that you’re applying plenty of colour, saturating the hair completely and rubbing together until you create a creamy foamy texture. Leave your colour on for around 15-30 minutes after application before rinsing off. For a more intense result, we suggest leaving your colour on for 45-60 minutes. To intensify your results even more, put a cover over your hair to prevent it from drying out and use your hair dryer to add heat.
Read our full hair dye how-to guide here.

How can I use crazy color on my naturally grey hair?

+

To get the most true to bottle shade, we would always recommend lightening your hair before applying. The bleaching process opens up the hair follicle making it more porous and receptive to colour. Natural grey hair can vary hugely in porosity and so we recommend doing a strand test to check how the colour will take to your hair.
Some of our Crazy Color semi-permanents are perfect for toning such as Silver, Platinum, Marshmallow, Ice Mauve, and Rose Gold. If you have some yellow undertones in your grey hair – we have haircare options to help eliminate them, find out more here.

I'm Ready To Hit The Bottle

Should I use gloves to apply colour?

+

Definitely yes to avoid having to scrub your hands afterwards! Our Semi-Permanents are saturated colours and so can leave a colour stain on your hands - wear gloves to prevent this from happening. Mix your colour together in a Crazy Color bowl & brush and always use gloves.

Should I pre-lighten my hair before using crazy color?

+

If you want to get the most true to bottle shade, the simple answer is yes. Our Crazy Color shades work best on bleached hair because it makes the hair more porous and absorbs the colour better than hair that hasn’t been lightened. It creates a clean, uniform base for your new Crazy Color vivid!
If you’re looking for tonal results, there’s no need to pre-lighten your hair. Check out the shade guide on each colour page on our website to get an idea of results depending on base level.

How do I bleach my hair?

+

Follow our instructions here.
Make sure to care for your bleached hair using our Bonding Trio: Shampoo, Conditioner and Recovery Treatment or a nourishing hair mask once a week to ensure strong, healthy hair after bleaching.

How light will my hair go using your bleach kit?

+

The current shade of your hair will affect how light your hair will go on your first bleaching application. You may need more than one application to reach a light blonde/platinum level if you hair is darker to begin with. Carry out a strand test before bleaching to test the results you will achieve.

Can I use crazy color without bleaching my hair?

+

Yes you can!
Our darker shades will give a lovely glossy tonal result. Why not try Bordeaux, Sapphire, Ruby Rouge, Cyclamen, Pine Green, Aubergine, Vermillion Red, Fire or Pinkissimo. Depending on the initial condition of your hair these shades may create a vibrant or a more subtle result. Carry out a strand test to give you an idea of the outcome.
Just a heads up, the results will not be as strong on darker hair as on bleached hair.

Do I need to do a strand test?

+

Find our guide here.

Do I need to do a patch test? And what is it?!

+

We recommend you perform a patch test 24 hours before dyeing your hair with our Semi Permanent shades. This is to test your skins sensitivity and ensure you will not have any irritation from using the products. Different things can affect your skin sensitivity so we recommend doing one each time you are going to dye your hair even if you are an experienced DIY-dyer.

How do I do a patch test?

+

Find our guide here.

How do I stop colour bleed?

+

We recommend using our Anti-Bleed Spray after dyeing and rinsing your hair to seal the hair cuticle and retain the colour within each strand.

Can I mix my colour?

+

Yes! We encourage your creativity, have fun with it and customise any shade. Check out each colour on our website which has a ‘Create your Custom Colour’ tab with some mixing ideas!

Can I use crazy color semi permanent shades on my wig, weave or extensions?

+

Yes you can! Follow our how to guide here.

Aftercare is vital for vivids

How can I make my vivid hair last longer?

+

There’s a few steps you can take to keep your colour vivid for longer. Always wash with cool water, the colder, the better. And make sure you’re using our range of Hair Care to prolong the life of your colour. Check out our Colour Care guide for more info.

How can I freshen up my colour each wash?

+

You can add any leftover colour from your bottle into your conditioner to create a pigmented hair mask. Or use our Vibrant Colour Shampoo’s which are formulated to deposit just enough pigment to refresh and prolong your Crazy Color shade.
Find out more here.

How do I remove a green/blue tone when colour is fading from my hair?

+

Some colours can be more difficult to remove than others and can leave blue/green undertones. All blue’s will eventually fade to green, especially if your hair has a yellow undertone. The best way to get rid of these tones from your hair is to neutralise them with a pink/red based colour. We recommend mixing some of our Pinkissimo with our Rainbow Conditioner and use on your hair like a mask to help neutralise the green/blue tones.

Sometimes when I use the lighter crazy color shades they only take to some of my hair – why?

+

This can be down to the varying porosity of your hair strands. With some of the lighter colours, make sure when you are dyeing your hair you are fully saturating your hair with colour and working it into the hair by smooshing/squeezing the colour into your hair. You may need a few bottles of the lighter tones, even on short hair or sometimes a second application to make the colour more visible.

Can I use your products if I’m pregnant?

+

We would always recommend doing an allergy/patch test before using any of our products as your skin can become more sensitive and please consult your doctor before using our products when pregnant.

I’ve dyed my hair and have some dye on my skin – what should I do?

+

We have the perfect solution for you! Our NEW Colour Remover Wipes were created to help our DIY Dyers with this problem! If you need help now with no time to order the Colour Remover Wipes, you can try using a little bit of dish soap or hand sanitiser on a damp cloth to remove any stray dye on your skin. Do a small patch test beforehand to make sure these products don’t irritate your skin.

What if I don’t like the results?

+

That’s the great thing about Semi Permanents – they will fade. In most cases our semi-permanent dyes will wash out between 10-12 washes. If you want to speed up the fade, use an abrasive shampoo such as an anti-dandruff shampoo.
